The After School Program

The FYC After School program is a comprehensive school and community-based initiative that supports a holistic approach to child, family and community success. The FYC After School Program is intended to provide innovative educational activities that support and expand on the school day curriculum. There is time for homework help and tutoring, with special emphasis on academic enrichment in reading, computer use and social skill development.

The After School Program is filled with numerous activities focused around five components:

• Academic Excellence/Enhanced Learning
• Leadership & Career Development
• Recreation & Wellness

Students have a plethora of engaging activities that help them to become more academically prepared resulting in decreasing truancy and absenteeism, make healthy choices leading to a decrease in school violence, office referrals and school suspensions and finally help children to accept the possibility/challenge of higher education or employment through their skill building classes. Activities have included: the 100 book challenge, tutoring, conflict resolution, peer mediation, financial management, civic awareness, food and nutrition, marital arts, family involvement and more.
